The case for changeYou are here: Home » Case For Change
Healthcare is constantly changing and advancing.
Our job is to ensure local health services keep up with the changes and opportunities for improvement, so we meet your needs in the best possible way.
We want to deliver a healthy future for all our residents and hospitals. However the cost of services is increasing as our population continues to grow and age. At the same time public funding is under pressure.
Evidence tells us the best way to meet these challenges and achieve our ambition is to work better together. So the NHS in Bedfordshire, Luton, Milton Keynes and Northants has formed Healthier Together, a programme to review the way our hospital services are delivered.
We recognise that to continue providing the high quality healthcare, the best outcomes for patients and value for money, some of our services must change.
This section of the website explains why clinicians and patient representatives believe that change is necessary and outlines the challenges that the health system is facing. It also explains our vision for the NHS in the South East Midlands.
Please read on to find out to find out why change is necessary. Tell us your views - we would like as many people as possible to get involved and help make changes for the better. Your views will be central in shaping our local health services.
No hospitals will close. Northampton, Kettering, Milton Keynes, Luton & Dunstable and Bedford will all continue to provide most local services
All five hospitals will have an A&E and maternity service
Our first priority is safe, sustainable, high quality services
Our recommendations will be based on clinical evidence and local need
